Building The Set - Set Ground

The ground for the set was a bit tricky one to create. I had first to exactly decide the measurement of my whole set, then know roughly where to place the objects in it such as trees, house and even the character.

After having a rough draft of how the ground base should look like with the measurements on it, I used two pieces of rigid foam, cut them using foam cutter.

Following this, I pieced the smaller parts together using double sided tape, then I filed one of the edges to give the curve shape. The curve is to give the feel that the set is on a hill.

Once that was done, I spray painted it in golden, then covered it with crochet-like material so it acts as a layer of soil.

Applying layers on the base

Later, I experimented with differ different material that can show a feel of moss on the ground. I mainly used sawdust, unfolded twine and cotton wool.

Moss experiments

Sawdust and unfolded twine seemed to work except the cotton wool. Thus I decided to use both on the base. I used spray glue to stick them to the soil layer.

Finally, I sprayed the entire ground with various colours, brown, green and golden. Then, I glued some tiny rocks, which I had collected earlier, on the ground.
